nutrition pregnancySoaking and sprouting certain foods allows them to be broken down into their simplest forms. Proteins break down into amino acids, Carbohydrates break down into simple sugars, Fats break down into fatty acids and minerals combine and chelate with protein.
Why is this important?
Because it improves digestion and assimilation considerably. The body always enjoys an easier ride where less stress is involved and therefore more energy is donated to living rather than digesting and feeling sluggish! If you have a choice - always go for the easiest and less stressful way.
Sprouts are Nutrient Rich Raw FoodsThe content of nutrients dramatically increases during the soaking and sprouting processes.
Proteins, vitamins, enzymes and minerals can increase by 300 - 1200%. An amazing example of this is the alfalfa sprout and zinc; zinc increases from 6.8mg per 100grams to 18mg per 100grams. An excellent zinc supply for anyone, but especially important during Pregnancy.
Sprouting is a wonderfully easy way to enhance the goodness and life force of nuts, seeds, grains and legumes.
How & What To SproutAlways soak what you are sprouting overnight, then drain the soaked water away in the morning. It is then recommended to rinse up to twice each day, morning and night, and then leave the sprout until its tail is no longer than itself. Once that has happened place in the fridge ready for eating. The food should stop sprouting once in the colder fridge temperature!
